SB01 Kampong Thom Countryside Tour

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kampong Thom by your guide. Board your private tuk tuk. You will head to the ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk. Enjoy a lovely ride through the Cambodian countryside. Having arrived at Sambor Prei Kuk you will visit the three main temple complexes: Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tor and Prasat Yeah Puon. These ruins are part of a vast complex of 257 structures that once was the sprawling city of Isanapura, capital of the Chenla Kingdom

After lunch you will continue your tour with a visit to rural villages. Watch local handicrafts such as basketweaving and silk weaving.

You will return to Kompong Thom via a different route. You will visit Phnom Santuk. On the top of this 180 meter high mountain is a pagoda known as Wat Kirichaomchong Phnom Santuk. Prepare yourself for a serious workout if you want to enjoy the view from Phnom Santuk. It is a long way up the stairs.

Transfer back to your hotel in Kampong Thom. Stop at one of the stonecarving workshops along the way.

Starting at any hotel in Kampong Thom

This tour is really for those who have a deep interest in the history of the ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk and in the attempts to save the ruins from further damage.

You will be picked up at your hotel in Kampong Thom by your guide. Board your private tuk tuk which will be the mean of transportation for the whole day. You will head out to the ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk.

Enjoy a lovely ride through the Cambodian countryside. Having arrived at Sambor Prei Kuk you will visit the three main temple complexes: Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tor and Prasat Yeah Puon. After this visit you will enjoy a Cambodian picnic lunch next to a small river.

You will also visit some of the outlying ruins, the remains of the old causeway and the moat. You will visit the undergoing excavation work under the supervision of Waseda University from Japan. This university has been doing research in the Sambor Prei Kuk area since 1998. At the end of the day your tuk tuk will wait for you to transfer you back to the hotel in Kampong Thom.
